The one-third tubular plate was developed more than 40 years ago by the AO/ASIF group of surgeons. Ever since, it has served as a workhorse for operative fixation of fractures of the lateral malleolus, the distal ulna, the olecranon, and the metatarsals. Straightforward, no complexity.
